Dick’s Sporting Goods opens its new outward-facing retail concept at its former Field & Stream store at the Polaris Fashion Place which closed in April.
Called Public Lands, the store at 1510 Polaris Parkway will carry brands of outdoor and lifestyle clothing, footwear, and gear. The store is expected to open in October.
The store will feature a 30-foot rock face, in-store repair and equipment rental, and specialty shops dedicated to outdoor activities including biking, camping, fishing, boating, skiing, climbing and hiking.
The concept will deliver a high customer service experience by relying on associates who are passionate about demonstrating their love for the outdoors and the protection of public lands.
Public Lands plans to hire approximately 25 full-time associates and 70 part-time associates. Recruitment will continue until the end of the month.
Last December, during a call with analysts, former Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Edward Stack said Dick’s was moving out of the Field & Stream line and replacing some of those stores – starting with the Pittsburgh stores. and Columbus – by the new concept.
“We think there is a real opportunity for people to go out, camp, hike, bike, kayak, fish. It will be different from what you would see with REI and create a niche different, ”he said. “But we’re really excited about this, the research we’ve done on this. We think there is a real opportunity in the market and… it will help us build on the properties that we already own that have the concept. Field & Stream in it. “
