The common history rock & roll reads something like this: Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Les Zeppelin, et al. Well, for those who know that those names explain it all comes the alternative history of rock: The 27s, a beautifully illustrated account of music’s last seventy years seen through the lives and legacies of the unfortunate stars who passed at the age of 27. As you might expect, the story begins with Delta bluesman Robert Johnson and moves on through Brian Jones, Jimi Hendirx, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain, but intertwined is an entirely new saga packed with alternative heroes such as Big Star’s Chris Bell, The Gits’ Mia Zapata, Echo & The Bunnymen’s hard-hitting Pete de Freitas, Manic Street Preacher’s Richey Edwards, Badfinger’s Pete Ham, Kristen Pfaff of Hole, and two-dozen more. |

NEW YORK, NY April 2, 2008 – Man Raze, a newly formed rock outfit featuring Phil Collen of Def Leppard, Simon Laffy from Girl and Paul Cook of The Sex Pistols, have announced the release of their full-length album “Surreal” on June 3, 2008 via VH1 Classic Records. Mixing the raw energy of the Pistols mixed with the immaculate pop rock of Def Leppard, Man Raze is a unique clash of 70’s simplicity with 80’s excess, punk clubs with stadium rock. Whether it’s the punk vibrancy of “Turn It Up”, the beautiful rock craftsmanship of “Every Second Of Every Day” or the reggae-soaked dub mix of “Runnin’ Me Up”, Surreal is an album that continuously pumps out the rock hits that these three members are most notorious for. Recently, Man Raze filmed a private show in Los Angeles that will premiere on VH1 Classic.com that will premiere later this year. The band plans to launch a U.S. tour in 2008. |

„My deepest, darkest moments are out there.“ Soundtrack for a non-existing film. Prepare your mind, imagine a cruel word, push play… My dear diary, I listened to a very unusual album today. I realy don´t know what to think about it. In one moment I was scared, in the other I had tears in my eyes. It starts with a monologue about Xmas, about fucking Xmas (it reminds me lyrics of Radiohead´s Fitter happier). Following Van Nuys is very strong – lyrics and music. So emotional, I think! Next is Life is beautiful – song with great guitar parts, I can say it is a metal song (yes, I imagined different song with this poet name, shame). Pray for me is number four. I wanted to stop listening – so boring, so simmilar… But I didn´t! The next song – Tommorow is absolutely fabulous! Continuing with Accident will happen – this song is the best on this album, in my opinion. Next Intermission is again starting with monologue and again you can listen to long guitar parts. Dead man‘s ballet is whole about blaming God, dying, drugs… a bit depressing song. Piano opens Heart failure, but it is the next metal song on this album. Slow, sweet, sexy Girl with golden eyes contents next part of the Heroine diary – experience with methadone. Blistering song Courtesy call and intimate Permission is absolutely truth. The last Life after death is weird, I don´t want to life after death like this! So what is the conclusion? Maybe my opinion is different from American’s (they like this album a lot!), maybe because of I´m not on the drugs… But I expect something better. Yeah, it´s not a bad album, definitely not! But… I feel only a tendency to write out the feeling from a bad period of Nikki Sixx´s life. Nothing else, sorry :( |

With the hiatus of pop-punk superstars blink-182 in full effect by the fall of 2005, singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge revealed the formation of his new band -- one he'd already been working with for six months -- Angels & Airwaves. With the notoriety of his previous group, much hype ensued after the announcement: in interviews with outlets like mtv.com, DeLonge proclaimed (among other things) that the new music would take elements of bands like U2 and Pink Floyd and ultimately be something of a revolution to change the face of rock & roll forever. Rounding out brainchild and songwriter DeLonge were guitarist David Kennedy (Boxcar Racer, Hazen Street), drummer Atom Willard (Rocket from the Crypt, the Offspring), and bassist Ryan Sinn (the Distillers). See the tourdates inside! |

Amateur Night? Not for These Bands |

AMONG the familiar tenets of successful musicians — play loud, live fast, blame the bad stuff on the drummer — there’s one that is rarely heard beyond the tour bus.
“It’s well known in the business that New Year’s Eve is amateur night for bands,” said Jerry Vivino, saxophonist in the Max Weinberg 7, the featured players on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” He is a veteran of many Dec. 31 gigs with his own jazz quartet. “People are out getting drunk,” he said, “so the music doesn’t matter. Anybody can play and people will have a good time.” But Mr. Vivino — a Paterson native and brother of the rock guitarist Jimmy Vivino (who also plays in the Max Weinberg 7) and the comedian Uncle Floyd Vivino — was speaking broadly. For the third time since 2004, he and his band will play this New Year’s Eve at Shanghai Jazz in Madison, where revelers, he said, are respectful. “This is an educated crowd,” he said. “If people are looking for a certain type of party — loud, a lot of drunk people — they’re not going to find it in this setting.” Across New Jersey, more than a few well-known clubs and the home-grown artists who love them are doing their best to erase the amateur-night designation. Like Jerry Vivino, who now lives in Nanuet, N.Y., the New Brunswick-based post-punk band Thursday will play the room they consider their home venue, according to Geoff Rickly, the front man: Starland Ballroom, in Sayreville. Not that Thursday is expecting the same dressed-up, well-behaved crowd that Mr. Vivino is. “We’ve done a holiday show the last four years, but never New Year’s Eve,” said Mr. Rickly, who just completed a tour with Thursday behind this year’s “Kill the House Lights” (Victory Records), a live CD partly recorded at Starland Ballroom. “This year we’re taking the plunge.” What he expects, he said, is what he usually sees at the Sayreville haunt, only with “more of a buzz.” |

Dueling Guitars in Gameland: MTV and Activision Face Off |

The holiday season is when all the action takes place in the video game business, and this year has already pitted Microsoft’s Xbox 360 against Sony’s PlayStation 3, and sleek new software against sequels like Halo 3. Enlarge This Image
But one of the most watched rivalries is between two games that are not first-person shooters or movie tie-ins. Instead, Activision’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and MTV’s Rock Band put players in the role of rock musicians and allow them to play along with songs by bands like Metallica and the Who.
Both titles could be important to an industry that is trying to reach out to adults, women and anyone lacking interest in a fighting game. Like Nintendo’s Wii, the Guitar Hero games have found a receptive mainstream audience, and the earlier versions sold a total of six million copies. In its first week of release, Guitar Hero III had sales of $115 million. Rock Band was released last Tuesday. |

The Pyramids debut album! |
|
Written by krotzyk

|
Wednesday, 07 November 2007 |
The Pyramids' self titled debut album is released this week. If you're a fan of stripped down and dirty, raw and real garage rock (and who isn't?), then this is for you.
The album was recorded on an old 16-Track tape (the same one which recorded PJ Harvey’s 'Dry' incidently) in a makeshift studio in a barn deep in the British countryside in just one week and captures the urgent sound and hip shaking grind of past garage rocker greats with the unmistakable characteristics and gestures of the Archie Bronson Outfit but with unique energy all it’s own.
You can buy The Pyramids album now from our Mart for £9.99 and a special triangle shaped vinyl of debut single – Hunch Your Body, Love Somebody for £4.99. |
